They say timing is everything, so lets see if they are right. I jumped on the 14 day trial of City of Heroes (CoH) a few days ago. Since playing, I have of course become very addicted to it. Addicted to the point of no even logging on SWG to check my harvesters and do maintainance on the houses. So today I canceled my SWG account...Erin's will follow as soon as I finish this post. I pulled all the harvesters, cleared out all the houses, and somehow managed to fit everything in the free space provided to the two chars. My account dies either tomorrow or the day after, and Erin's will die in about a week. I still have a little moving to do between the chars, but that should only take another hour or so.
Why the change? Well, a couple of reasons. First off, quite simply, I am not playing SWG, so why pay for it? Since grabbing CoH, that is all I have been playing. It will run out while I am in Deleware, and I don't know if I will buy it after that, but it is all I am doing now.
Second, I have a bad taste in my mouth from SWG right now, or at least the developers. The last expansion Rage of the Wookiees was cool, but it introduced a plethora of bugs. I have two missions I can not complete because by random chance I got bugged...some people didn't. There are also quite a few other missions where I got lucky and was able to continue but others are stuck unable to continue. The expansion has been out almost 2 months now, and it was beta for about a month before that, but bugs found in early beta still exist. The recent major publish, 18, introduced a couple of bugs that directly involved Tailors, Armorsmiths, and Bio Engineers. The clothes that tailors made that had stats on them can no longer be crafted. Making crates of clothes now makes them with the default color and name instead of the color and name you wanted so instead of say, black shirts people will buy, you get odd grayish light brown shirts that no one wants. That basically took away 90% of the profitability out of Erando for me. This would not be a big deal, but they knew about it in testing...along with a lot of other bugs that were discovered in testing that made it to live. Why do they have a testing cycle if nothing is fixed? It honestly seems like they just make sure the server does not crash and they did not introduce new exploits.
The main reason comes down to timing though. When I get back from Deleware, I won't have any games under my belt. If I want to pick up CoH, I can run out an buy it. If I want to play SWG, I can reactivate. If I wanna say fuck it, and not play games for awhile, that is cool too. I have plenty of things around the apartment that could be done, or rantfest 2 to polish off, or working on writing, photoshop, reading...
