Yes. - Stories - Work - Misc - Books - WoW
Posted on: 2010-10-01 03:33:12

Yes, I have fallen behind in just about everything: the blog, the novels, my reading, the cleaning. But the bills are getting paid and I almost have another level 80 in WoW. In the last month or so, I have (re)discovered http://www.reddit.com/ and Irish whiskey (and Irish coffee), trained a couple of people at work, finished Little Brother and started Nineteen Eighty-Four. I finally threw out my old, worn, and rather disgusting Jinx AFK hat and purchased a couple of really plain hats off of the $2 clearance rack at Wal-Mart. And I have slept, at least once or twice. Speaking of sleep, I am gonna go do that now.

Incentives Take 2 - Work
Posted on: 2010-08-06 03:02:26

Turnover is very high at work, especially during this time of year. It is hot outside, there are presses running between 300F and 400F every 15 feet or so which makes it even hotter, and you are tasked with maintaining a high level of production. I am guessing almost 300 people have been hired since I started, some stayed, most didn't (I have no idea how I have made it). Basically, the job is kinda hard (physically) and the heat makes is very hard. But with all this turnover, I find myself explaining how we get paid a lot. I have gotten pretty good at it, Gross pay is Base Pay + Overtime Pay + Attendance Bonus + Incentive Pay. Anyone who has had a job gets Base Pay and Overtime Pay immediately, Attendance Bonus is easy to pick up, and as long as I gloss over Incentive, they are fine.

The Lottery Ticket - Misc - Work
Posted on: 2010-06-02 04:27:25

I don't know why, but this feels like a confession: I bought a lottery ticket. It was $2. I knew I wasn't going to win. I bought it anyways. I feel pretty good about it. Amusingly, it could have gone bad. First my little story, then how it could have gone bad.

In case you were curious... - Computer - Movies - Games - Stories - Work - Misc - WoW - Annoyances

I am aware of the lack of posts. Oddly, it doesn't even stem from a lack of anything to post about, just nothing over exciting, or at least nothing I feel excited about to somehow stretch it out into a single post. Instead of hashing out the reason(s) I have just been wearily plodding on, just being content that I can, in fact, wearily plod on. So here is a sum up:

Incentives - Work
Posted on: 2010-03-22 16:57:20

I am home again, waiting to be able to take some more pills before I pass out again. And as I sit here waiting, one thing keeps popping into my head: incentives. The way I get paid is kinda funky. It isn't as simple as working so many hours under a fixed pay rate. I do have a fixed pay rate or $9.66/hr and a set schedule of 40hr/wk (plus the occasional mandatory 6-8 hours of overtime on Saturdays), but there is more than that. Also, affecting my pay is my productivity, my quality, and my attendance for the week.

Not Playing Hooky. - Work - Annoyances
Posted on: 2010-03-02 15:16:43

I am kind of annoyed right now. I should have been at work almost an hour ago, but I am not. In fact, I am in bed typing on Gun. I don't really feel sick, slight headache, minds a little cloudy, nothing major. But then again, I am prone right now. Sitting, I have found, is good also. But walking, now that has been interesting today. I have almost toppled a bookshelf, which might have hit the cat; I knocked a couple of cans on the floor; and I very nearly had a slapstick moment when I went to sit down in my chair, only it wasn't under me. I am a little dizzy, and right now that is costing me money. I was in the process of getting ready when some of the consequences popped into my head. I work in a very fast paced job with large machines and heavy molds that are hot enough that you often don't register pain when they burn you. There are worse things that could happen.

6 Years of TME! - Computer - Site News - Birthdays - Work
Posted on: 2010-02-28 05:54:21

Today (Sunday) this site is officially 6 years old, and to celebrate that fact, I figured I would actually post...which is something I have been fairly bad about recently. I go in waves, as most of you know, so me going some time without posting shouldn't be too surprising. I have been in a huge work-wow-sleep schedule and everything else has been drifting away.

2nd shift. - Work
Posted on: 2010-02-01 12:42:10

Today is going to be my first day on my permanent shift...in about an hour. I have little to no idea what I am going to be doing, but whatever I end up doing tonight will probably be what I am doing for the next few weeks. I am both a little apprehensive and excited. I am also curious how long it is going to take to get into the swing of things and to stop feeling immense amounts of pain after a days work. Now I suppose I should start getting ready.

Life Reboot ...275 - Work
Posted on: 2010-01-19 12:32:57

Tomorrow begins the first day of a life reboot. I am joining the ranks of the working people again. After probably hundreds of applications sent out and done online, Jasper Rubber decided to take a chance and give me a job. I had a brief orientation today, and I start my training tomorrow at 5:40am. Yes, 5:40am. Luckily for me, once my training is over, I won't have to get up that early ever again. I am not sure how long training lasts, but getting up before the sun is a small price to pay to be employed again.

Twenty Ten One Twelve - Stories - Work - Misc - WoW - Family - Computer
Posted on: 2010-01-12 14:18:52

It is crazy that it has been two weeks since I posted last. It doesn't seem like that long, but a lot has happened since 12-27 (the 12-29 post was late due to a text to post error and my general lack of attention). My addiction to WoW was rekindled, the new year broke, Rook had another extended visit, I had a job interview (waiting on a call for the follow up this week, keep your finger crossed...and your toes...and children's toes...and anything else you can cross), the wife's grandfather passed away, I met a ton of the wife's relatives (most of which I had seen at least once before), and I have been heartily thinking about putting XP back on my computer instead of Win7 (at least until I get a faster proc and more ram...ie about two months after I find a job.) As far as the novel goes, I have poked around a bit, mostly seeing where I left off, and trying to find my voice again. I even have a few ideas for a possible fourth(?) novel in the series, and some expansions on the ideas I had for the third.
