What is the 'J' in your PBJ?

The wife and I were making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches the other day. We were just getting everything out and she asked what type of jelly I wanted, and I was immediately like, 'Duh, grape.' just assuming everyone knew that. She then went on at length about not assuming a flavor because there is more than one type of jelly, which is fine. I know there is more than one type of jelly, but I always just assume that if someone just says jelly (when referring to food), and does not specify a flavor, they mean grape. She eventually broke down and said that if she had to make an assumption about flavor, it would be black berry (or something other than grape, I will admit, I was too distracted by the 'not grape' to really pay attention...it happens).
So, I am curious about two things: What flavor do you assume jelly will be (if you make that assumption) and what flavor you prefer on your PBJs (and don't say you don't eat PBJs you fucking liar...unless you are alergic, then God forgives you and I guess I will as well.)?
Hmm..

Well, it really made me think... but I generally like strawberry jam/strawberry preserves when I am making a PB&J. However, when I think specifically of jelly, I have to say grape... because when I go to restaurants, that is the default jelly they have... and it spills over into my jelly-mentality.
Duh

Strawberry.
Interesting question

I agree with Saegiru. I definitely prefer strawberry jelly, but if someone were to just hand me a PB & J sandwich without knowing my preference, I would assume that they used grape jelly. And then I'd have to throw it back at them and scream that they never listen to anything I say and I hate them. ;)

I think we usually had grape jelly unless the kids went shopping with us and got something weird.

Yeah, the canonical PBJ is definitely grape jelly. I like lots of kinds, but that's its base form.

I remember Grandma's blackberry jelly from back when I was a kid, and it was teh bomb. I remember having grape jelly too, but it wasn't nearly as special so I don't tend to think about it as much. Besides, if I can't have Grandma's blackberry jelly, I'd rather have strawberry. :b

... that I eat a PB&J it would be grape, and I certainly assume grape is the default when somebody mentions a PB&J.
However, I prefer Cream Cheese and Mint Jelly sandwiches. My dad would eat them, and damn, they are tasty!
Well

I think of strawberry and prefer it on my PBJ. I'm not sure if that comes from us always having that particular flavor growing up or the fact that it's my favorite. But no matter what flavor of jelly you use you must have a glass of milk to compliment the PBJ otherwise it just doesnt taste the same :)
Ummm

I don't do milk, or at least, I try not to all that often. It does bad things to the area around me.

I hate PB&J sandwiches. (I don't like peanut butter.)
In our house the standard jelly/jam is strawberry, not grape.
Shoot me no, too.

Oi, you need just a peanut butter sandwich. (Bad memories of jelly that's all.) Besides I ate a God damn peanut butter sandwich for nearly everyday of my life. (Yeah, go me....) But I think of grape jelly most of the time when it is mentioned. And I feel like posted on this for no reason.
Fuck! Now!!!

Minor error on my title. I meant to copy Katie's title and be the anti her. (I meant for "shoot me noW, too." but I can't type and think at the same time. Damn it!)
