Well... - Design
Posted on: 2007-07-24 22:44:21

Well, the croton colors almost lasted a week. I just did not realize how bad the yellow looked on my desktop computer, and well, I wanted the filesize to be smaller. Even optimized for the web, the images were around 50k, add another 8-10k for the text, and you get around 60k. I normally like to keep the page 20k and under for those hapless people still on dialup. So yeah, here is a much cleaner look, love it.

Thank you! For both the change and for thinking of us with dialup! Anyways we've only been down here for like two or three hours and both Erin and Dad have already gottin lost in their DSs'. Anyways this looks cool, too!

That does not surprise me at all.

Erin mentioned she was dragging the DSs down and would most likely get caught up in Animal Crossings.

Yeah, this is more usable still. But I like some of the little touches, like the letters inverting as they cross the line in the title and the continued use of small caps. It looks like a classic Web page only done right.

Maybe you can add your little figure you use for your icon or the black and white picture you had about two or three designs ago.

Interview

Any news yet on the interview?

I love small caps.

I really prefer the look of small caps to lowercase characters. But since it is not as readable, I try to limit it to titles and links. I was also planning on using it fo the banner image, but it did not look as nice so I gave up that touch of consistancy to look better. I normally don't bother with consistancy between banner fonts and text fonts_with the exception of serif/san-serif_since banners normally use decorative fonts. The banner font here is Kozaka Gothic Pro, but since most people don't have that font, you are probably getting Arial for the font everywhere else (unless you don't have it, then you get whatever your browsers default sans-serif font happens to be).

Hmm, speaking of which, do you Mac users get Arial by default? I know you get Helvetica, which is what Arial was "designed to look like". Just curious.

As for the little figure, I had played with that idea, but I don't like any of the ones I have drawn up. I might make a new one and see if it fits in anywhere.

And the interview, no, I have not heard anything. I do, however, feel like the stereotypical teenage girl in the fact that I perk up and run to the phone everytime it rings.

Hmmmmm

Much easier on the eyes. However, I won't be visiting your site late at night or I might go blind by all the whitespace. LOL

I tend to keep rooms dark, so lots of whitespace are almost as annoying as the last design. I'm not sure inverting the the black and white would be any more helpful.

I must admit, my favorite design to date was the one you had prior to the last one. I thought that was an exceptional look and feel for your site. I was really impressed.
