...a few more details. - Site News
Posted on: 2008-10-20 20:19:04

So yeah, with the last post. I had implemented a new spam blocking system (which I will talk more about below), suddenly, we stop getting any comments to the site, so I start to post about the changes. Then, of course, we get about 15 while I was typing so I did not bother with details. I have made some adjustments, things seem to be working ok, so I will go on.

I have implemented Akismet into our commenting system. It is the same system behind wordpress.com, one of the bigger blogging platforms out there. There is a perl module to interact with the service (found here) because, yes, all of rantfest is in perl.

As a test, I have killed all the other spam prevention methods I have put in. Yup, all of them. So while you might see a ton of captchas around, they don't do anything. I am going to leave it like this for about a week, and then add some back in as I feel I need them. I told the wife I would take care of deleting all the spam that isn't caught to allay her annoyance at what might be coming though.

I do need your help though. Try and comment on this post. Hopefully all should be well, but if not, kick me a text or email at throwaway@slantedminds.com to let me know it failed.

Speaking of Tor, I need to make a nice post about Tor one of these days.

Don't remember trying to post recently. Wasn't having any problem then.

Happy and Sad

For my test post I figured I'd share that I am happy because I have tried a new game, which is okay so far; Warhammer. However, both The Wife and I are sad because Dustie the Cat had used up all of her nine lives last Tuesday. She was over 16.5 years old, a great fuzzy to have around, and sorely missed. The house feels so empty without her.

Oh!

Poor Dustie. :( I can imagine it's pretty quiet without the cat around. Then again, it's generally pretty quiet when a cat is around. I guess the lack of fur will really be noticeable though. :(

There you go.

Not only is EA evil, but playing their games kills family pets.

Seriously though, it sucks that Dustie is gone.

That made me laugh!

Thanks you two. :)
