We were recently introduced to the concept of single serving packets of coffee, that we misinterpreted as being similar to tea bags (probably more our wishful thinking there). So the last time I hit the store, I grabbed a bag of the only thing on the shelf that resembled said packets, Folgers Pods. After getting them home we realized it was supposed to work with these baby coffee machines. The wife and I collectively said fuck that, and proceeded to use them like tea bags.
Then I remembered cold brewed coffee. It was something I read about a long time ago, probably on lifehacker.com, that I promptly ignored because of the amount of effort (and dishes we didn't own) required to make it. But now with these Pods I wanted to look it up again. I am not going to go into all the details of how/why it works, here is a link for that, but I will cover the basics of what you do, and how I did it. If you want a much better explanation as well as a probably much better method of making your own, hit up the link. But basically, you take 1 part coffee ground, 4 parts water, put them in a sealed container, and leave in the fridge for several hours...the longer the stronger. After the wait, you filter the hell out of it, and you have a fairly strong coffee base to which you can add more water to make it right for you. It is ready for milk, sugar, and consumption and is very good.
I grabbed an old jar from when Katie had given us some jelly...preserves...jam...some form of gelatinized smashed fruit with sugar (I remember it being good.), tossed in one of the pods, sealed it up, and tossed it into the fridge. After that I basically followed the above directions, but since all the grounds were in the pod, I didn't have to worry about filter it. There was just under a cup of the coffee base to which I added another cup and tossed it back in the fridge for later consumption. It made enough for two cups.
And the later consumption was awesome. Of course, tons of sugar, lots of milk. I want to go drink the rest, but I promised it to the wife.
