I just went into the kitchen to start the dishes and the phone rings. I grab the phone and scope the caller id, we are big call screeners here, and it shows up "unknown". Normally at this point I would just sit the phone down and walk away, but the wife is out and might be calling from who knows where, so I hold onto it. The answering machine picks up and midway through delivering its message, a programmed voice on the other end starts "Please hold on for an important message." At least, that is what I am assuming it was going to say. All that popped out was "on for an important mes...." and then there was a guy's voice saying Hello over and over again. Why have these little messages if you are A, not going to let them finish, and B, not even time them right to begin with.
I also don't understand why they call, and then not leave a message, so all we get is someone saying Hello a couple of times before hanging up in frustration. I understand when one person calls someone they know to chat and hangs up when they get the machine. But if I owned a company and I invested money in an automated system like these guys use and then I found out that they did not even leave a message, I would be annoyed.
It is almost making me want to make a little setup like that, though. I press a button on the computer, it starts to dial, and gives an automated message while I take a last couple of sips of tea and grab the phone. I am sure I would alienate myself from people far more than I already have. That is if I used it...who the hell do I call?
